Next Pilgrim's Compass Class: The Way of a Pilgrim
Friday, November 8, 2019, 6-8:30 pm / Saturday, November 9, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm in the Parish Hall

This course invites participants, using the metaphor of pilgrimage, to consider one’s life as a journey for faith formation. The course is designed in a retreat format. It will help participants consider their own spiritual pilgrimage with God by learning about the Pilgrim’s compass. We will examine the four stages of intentional faithfulness:

  1. [E] encountering God

  2. [W] wrestling with God

  3. [S] Sin and wounding

  4. [N] being reborn as a new person with a new name

The retreat will also examine the role of today’s emerging Church and how we are called to live in today’s changing world by designing ministries to serve disciples, seekers and wanderers. This new focus encourages us to moves is beyond simply offering programs for people to “come to the church” and encourages us to become the church that goes out to love seekers and serve the community. How can the contemporary Christian community live out the mission of Christ in new and exciting ways by examining the ancient idea and practice of “pilgrimage?” This course will help St. Cat’s leaders, members, and friends to get up and move toward more of what God has for us to be and do.

We will join in worship, plenary teaching sessions, small group conversations and silent reflection. There is no cost for this course and snacks will be provided. Participants are asked to bring their own meals or eat before arriving. We will have a lunch break so please bring your own lunch (drinks provided). Free childcare will be available (infants – preschool) for those who make childcare reservations no later than October 24, 2019.

This course is organized around the book The Pilgrim’s Compass by Dr. Paul Lang who will be our instructor and will be a “core curriculum” component for those hoping to attend the Compassing Retreat in February or August 2020.
