“Simon son of John, do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.”

Thirteen percent of Georgians receive SNAP, a food assistance program from the government. Currently some or all of that assistance is unavailable. In response to this crisis, St Catherine’s will be collecting grocery gift cards to Kroger, Walmart and Aldi.

Our grocery gift card offerings will be distributed three places:
  • Wheeler High School and Wheeler feeder schools, where school social workers will give our gift cards to students who face food insecurity.
  • Family Promise Graduates, who rely on SNAP benefits to stay in their current housing.
  • St Catherine’s, for those who come into the office seeking help, and for members of St Cat’s who may need assistance. If 13 percent of Georgians need SNAP, we can assume that a percentage of St Catherine’s members are also experiencing food insecurity.
How you can help:

Bring in a gift card! We recommend between $25-40/gift card. Drop it in the offering plate on Sunday. If possible, please write the amount on the back of the card.

Spread the word! People in the community can drop off grocery gift cards in the secure mailbox right outside the office door.

Help someone who needs food. If you know someone who is experiencing food insecurity, you can get a gift card to give away.

More ways to help are listed farther down this webpage, along with local resources in our community.

We plan to continue this program until the SNAP crisis is over, recognizing that even if it ends today, the need will remain for some time as food access, for many, has been disrupted.
