All God’s Children has previously taken pilgrimages to Montgomery, Selma and Charleston. This year, we will stay at “home” and explore Atlanta’s rich civil rights history, by concentrating on the “Sweet Auburn” neighborhood.
Dates for the Pilgrimage Events:
Tuesday, 9/29: 6:30 to 8/8:30 pm: Via Zoom: Pilgrimage Kick-off
We will explore our experiences from past pilgrimages, our hopes and expectations for the current pilgrimage, and our commitment to action after the pilgrimage
Saturday, 10/17: 10 to 12 noon: in-person meeting at St. Catherine’s
Continued exploration of experiences, hopes, expectations and commitment
Friday, 11/13: 6:30 to 8/8:30 p.m. (doors open: 5:30 for dinner), in-person at St. Catherine’s
Dinner to launch the pilgrimage weekend. We will conclude the meeting with Eucharist.
Saturday, 11/14, depart St. Catherine’s at 9:30 am, return by 9:30pm
Visit pilgrimage locations. Transportation will be provided. Sweet Auburn stops include the Apex Museum, the Auburn Avenue Research Library, the Municipal Market for lunch, Big Bethel AME Church and Ebenezer Baptist Church. Note: All stops are within close proximity, but some walking will be required. We will close with a short drive to dinner and a speaker at the legendary Paschal’s Restaurant.
Sunday, November 15, depart St. Catherine’s at 9am, return about 3pm:
Travel to and from Big Bethel AME church. Transportation will be provided. We will attend service from 10 to 12 noon, then meet with Senior Pastor Dr. Jay Augustine, and finish with a group debrief of the pilgrimage. Lunch will be provided.
Date To be determined: a follow-up meeting sometime in January 2027.
Important note: Pilgrims are expected to commit to all events on all 6 days of the pilgrimage.
Objectives: Personal growth in knowledge of Atlanta’s Civil Rights history. Group growth in “beloved community” with other pilgrims and those we meet along the way in Sweet Auburn. Growth in commitment to social justice, Christian “action” steps after the pilgrimage.

Cost: $125 per person. Scholarships are available on request. Limit 30 pilgrims. Please note that St. Catherine’s will be paying a significant portion of costs. The per person fee covers costs beyond the St. Catherine’s budget.
What’s included: Guide fee, honorariums for speakers, Friday night dinner at St. Catherine’s, Saturday night dinner at Paschal’s, Sunday lunch after the Big Bethel service, admission at all stops. Rides to and from St. Catherine’s will be arranged both Saturday and Sunday.
What’s not included: lunch on your own at the Municipal Market Saturday. Possibly gratuity at Paschal’s (to be determined.)
