Anticipation. Hope. Longing. Waiting. What is Advent… to you?

While in every store the rush to Christmas purchases hits full swing and our calendars fill up with December “to-dos,” Advent is the time set aside on the church calendar for “holy waiting,” preparing our hearts and minds for both Jesus's birth and also his return at the Second Coming.
And Advent themes of anticipation have even more meaning for us at St. Catherine’s in 2026 as we anticipate and prepare for calling our new rector next year.
How do we live into “a holy Advent” at such a frenzied time of year? One way is taking time for study and reflection on scripture. For more than 25 years members of St. Catherine’s have contributed to our parish’s Advent observances by writing meditations for everyone to read as a part of their own preparations in this season.
Those who write often comment that the experience becomes a special process making Advent more personally meaningful. And the published reflections collection is eagerly anticipated by those who each year pick up booklets to share with family and friends.
When one of our previous reflections contributors was asked, “Why do you write?” their answer was surprisingly simple: “Because I was asked!” So, please consider this YOUR ask. Wont you consider writing for this year's collection?
New contributors are invited as well as all who have written in past years. You will be given a scripture passage on which to write a brief (1 to 3 paragraphs) meditation. It will be due by Friday, November 6.
