Fall in Love with EfM – again or for the first time!

Education for Ministry (EfM) is open to all who are seeking to deepen their faith, dig

deeper into the riches of their Christian tradition, and want to join with others in their

journey. In the fall of 2025 Education for Ministry launched a revised curriculum that

includes a new one-year program, EfM: Wide-Angle. If it has been a while since you

took EfM or are new to EfM, now may be the time to join a group at St. Catherine’s.

Come and explore with others seeking to deepen their relationship with God and their

neighbors.

A new voice has joined the Classic EfM program called EfM: Wide-Angle. Although

there are new books and texts, the focus of EfM: Classic remains the same as the

previous four-year program, the Old Testament, New Testament, Christian history,

spirituality, and ethics. Wide-Angle, the one-year program that St. Catherine’s will be

offering, engages participants in an array of ideas and perspectives while covering the

same topics as EfM: Classic. Participants will meet weekly in a small group at St.

Catherine’s to worship and pray together, discuss the weekly learning material, and

reflect theologically. This group meets for 1 or 1 ½ hours versus the 1 ½ to 3 hours in

the Classic program, and there is less class preparation. Along with the five books

selected for this year’s program, EfM is now utilizing an online learning platform, which

means participants receive podcasts, videos, art, and essays as part of the weekly

assignment, offering rich and modern material.

The five books for this year are:

  • Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again by Rachael Held Evans

  • Church Meets World: Church’s Teaching for a Changing World by Winnie Varghese

  • The Monastic Heart: 50 Simple Practices for a Contemplative and Fulfilling Life by Joan Chittister

  • Ladder to the Light: An Indigenous Elder’s Meditations on Hope and Courage by Steven Charleston

  • Being Disciples: The Essentials of the Christian Life by Rowan Williams

We would love to share our plans for offering EfM: Wide-Angle at St. Catherine’s in the

new year. If you are interested in finding out more about EfM: Wide-Angle talk to Terri

Gabrielson or email her HERE to receive more

information about the program.
