Tai Chi:

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi is a series of gentle physical exercises and stretches that connect your mind

and body. Known for its ability to improve relaxation, balance, and its ease of

use for older adults. It is easy, enjoyable and safe for people with mild, moderate

and severe joint involvement and back pain. It is especially appropriate for adults who

have a higher risk of falling.

The Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention Program focuses on

improving movement, decreasing falls, and connecting with peers. The program teaches

techniques that increase muscular strength, flexibility exercises that reduce pain and

stiffness, and stamina fitness which is important for overall health and proper function

of your heart, lungs, and muscles. Classes meet for 1 hour, 2 times a week for 8

weeks (or 1 time a week for 16 weeks) under the guidance of certified program

leaders.

Benefits of the program:

Studies have found that people who have participated in the workshop noticed

improved balance and mobility, a decrease in pain, increased flexibility, improved

psychological health, and fewer falls
